Battery Storage

Fox ESS CQ7 High-Voltage Battery

The CQ7 is a stackable home battery you build to the size you need. Each module holds 6.96kWh, and you stack them to reach the capacity that suits your place. A system runs a minimum of two modules (13.92kWh) and scales all the way up to fourteen modules for 97.44kWh in a single stack, which is well into small-business territory.

It’s a high-voltage system, which is the more efficient way to do battery storage. Less energy is lost moving power in and out than with low-voltage setups, and Fox ESS rates the round-trip efficiency above 95%, so more of your solar actually ends up running the house. Better still, the whole battery is usable: it runs at 100% depth of discharge, so there’s no chunk held in reserve that you’ve paid for but can’t touch.

Installation is meant to be quick. The modules are plug-and-play: they stack and connect without a lot of fiddly wiring, which keeps your installer’s time on site down. The stack is built from one master module (the CQ7-M, which holds the system controller) plus up to thirteen slave modules (CQ7-S) that add capacity, so the system grows neatly rather than turning into a tangle of separate units.

On the practical side it runs LFP (LiFePO4) cells, the stable, longer-lasting chemistry, and carries CAN communication, an integrated fire protection function, and an IP65 rating for dust and weather indoors or out. It charges from 0°C and discharges down to -10°C as standard. If you’re in a cold area, there’s an optional warm-up version (the “w” models) that takes the working range down to -25°C, so it keeps performing through frosty mornings.
